Commentary: A political tone in a conversation about sports on a local TV news program

(note: this commentary was made on the Wednesday of the fifteenth day of this February)

I did not like this conversation in the sports segment of the local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the second half of the hour of 6:00 p.m. this Wednesday ("WKRG News 5 at 6:30" was the name of the program):

Randy Patrick Setterstrom (a sports reporter): Working our way to March Madness and that bracketology, right, uh, Donald Trump's not playing games, right? He came to Mobile and predicted that he would be the president of the United States. That prediction came true.

Peter Albrecht (a news presenter): But what about basketball?

Randy Patrick Setterstrom: Doesn't want to get into the business of predicting basketball brackets, so he declined to join the ESPN bracket deal like President Obama had done--the former president had done for a number of years. He's, of course, a great basketball fan. I don't know if Donald Trump's a big basketball fan or not.

(personally I thought this conversation was unnecessary or appropriate for what was supposed to be a news program, or even a sports segment of a news program (it sounded more like gossip on a program for discussing sports). Not even the sports part of the conversation was worth mentioning since the person it was about was probably not interested in it and the idea that he would be interested was probably based on expectations unworthy of being part of a news program. I did not even care for the person it was about since I never considered him worthy of the the presidency of the United States (he was very disgraceful as both a candidate for the presidency and as the person holding the presidency itself). If I were to be interested in a news report about him, I would rather watch and/or hear an actual news report about him without any bias or favorability toward him)

Commentary: A biased and deceitful interview

I thought this interview for the local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the second half of the hour of 4:00 a.m. and the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. of this Thursday ("WKRG News 5 This Morning") about a member of the Senate of the United States originally from Mobile (named Jefferson (Jeff) Sessions) being confirmed for the position of "attorney general of the United States" (or lawyer for the federal government of the United States) was very biased toward him and very wrong about what all citizens of the state of Alabama were doing at the time it was conducted (I could assure you that not all of them were cheering about him).

News for Wednesday, February 8th, 2017

Commentary: A prediction, a review, and an enjoyable experience

      • I had a feeling that many folks in southwest Alabama (either with or without either cable TV service or satellite TV service) would have a lot of trouble trying to receive TV programming about a certain football game through antennas this Sunday due to the digital broadcast signal from the main transmitter of the the station set to have it (WALA-TV) being very tough to receive at a level of quality sufficient for stable or fair reception (there had been several reports on the Internet about this problem for many years).
      • I did not like the new graphics and music used on some of the local news programs for WALA-TV since this past Saturday (on the fourth day of this February). I thought the music sounded too dramatic and exciting for to be either enjoyable, memorable, or professional, and I thought the graphics did not suit their presentation overall. For example, I thought the logo used for those programs was too plain and too much like some of the previous logos used on the local news programs they have had since their broadcast operation became affiliated with the FOX Broadcast Company (by the year 1996). I wish they had kept going with the graphics and music normally used on their local news programs before this past Saturday until a point in time when replacing them may be necessary (such as a change in network affiliations).
      • I enjoyed the "marathon" of the TV program named "Mystery Science Theater 3000" from the TV programming service named Comet TV through one of the digital sub-channels for WFGX-TV this Sunday (I was not interested in the programming about the football game mentioned in the first paragraph; especially since my favorite professional football team was not set to be part of it), especially after having having discovered that Comet TV had the right to broadcast it on a regular basis within the past year and after having gone without any regular broadcasts of it since the last time the programming service formerly known as the the Sci-Fi Channel (it was renamed SyFy) had the right to broadcast it several years ago (I was still able to watch episodes of the program since then through video recordings and Internet video services.

News for Saturday, February 4th, 2017

      • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WALA-TV during the first half of the hour of 9:00 p.m. this Saturday ("FOX 10 News at 9:00 p.m.") had certain digital graphics (such as a logo and some animated sequences) and music not normally used in their local news programming in recent times instead of the ones normally used for such programming before then.
      • The main broadcast channel for WJTC-TV was set to have a syndicated episode of a network TV program with depictions of members of an actual professional football team expected to play in a championship football game this Sunday on the fifth day of this February during the second half of the hour of 9:00 p.m. this Saturday (the name of the program was "Family Guy"; the name of football team was the Patriots).

News for Friday, February 3rd, 2017

      • According to the official Facebook pages for WABF-AM and WERM-AM, their programming feeds were swapped from their usual broadcast frequencies this past Wednesday on the first day of this February (the feed for WABF-AM was usually broadcast at 1220 kilocycles while the one for WERM-AM was usually broadcast at 1480 kilocycles before then).
      • The programming feed for WABF-AM had an announcement about the news regarding their programming feed and the one for WERM-AM mentioned in the previous paragraph in some of its commercial breaks between this past Thursday on second day of this February (it was delivered by a former radio announcer for another radio station based in southwest Alabama that used to broadcast at 1480 kilocycles before them (the name of the announcer was Barry Silverman; the name of the former station for which he used to work was WABB-AM)).
      • One of the news presenters for the local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the second half of the hour of 4:00 a.m. and the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. this past Thursday (Bill Riales of "WKRG News 5 This Morning") used at least one part of its broadcast to promote a plan for their companion station (WFNA-TV) and their own station to have a special program titled "The Big Game Tailgate" on their main broadcast channels between then and this Sunday on the fifth day of this January (the channel for WFNA-TV was set to have it this Friday during the second half of the hour of 9:00 p.m. (it was usually set to have a comedic TV program named "The Andy Griffith Show" during that time period from Monday through Friday in recent times) while the one for WKRG-TV was set to have it this Saturday (on the fourth day of this February) during the second half of the hour of 6:00 p.m. (it was usually set to have a syndicated program named "Today's Homeowner" in recent times)).

News for Thursday, February 2nd, 2017

      • The main broadcast channel for WALA-TV had a report about the owner of a radio station based in their local broadcast area (Clark Stewart of WHEP-AM in the city of Foley in southwest Alabama) on a local TV program of theirs dedicated to entertainment and lifestyles ("Studio 10") this Thursday.
      • A video about a report planned for one of the local news programs at WKRG-TV this Thursday was on the wall of their official Facebook page by this past Tuesday (they usually did not have videos like this one on the page by then* (it was originally on a Facebook page attributed to a member of their local news operation named Emily DeVoe)).
      • A recording of a type of interview for the local news operation at WKRG-TV not usually uploaded onto either their official World Wide Web site or their official YouTube channel was uploaded onto the channel this past Tuesday on the thirty-first day of this past January (it was a promotional type of interview for one of their local news programs).**
(*it had the voice of a professional announcer for their programming named Jeff Davis)

(**they usually had this type of interview in a local news segment for their main broadcast channel during one of its breaks from having a new edition of a national news program from their main provider of network programming named "CBS This Morning" from Monday through Friday in recent times (the break it usually had during the last fives minutes of the first half of the hour of 8:00 a.m. from Monday through Friday in recent times was when it usually had this type of interview)).

News for Wednesday, February 1st, 2017

        • A former host for a radio program for Mississippi Public Broadcasting usually broadcast on Wednesdays named "Everyday Tech" was one of the guests in its broadcast for this Wednesday (the name of the host was Ashley Jefcoat; as for when it was broadcast this Wednesday, it was during the hour of 10:00 a.m. (its usual time period for being broadcast)).
(note: all times mentioned here reflect the Central time zone)

Commentary: Some suggestions and a delightful thought

        • I enjoyed the thought of having seen two members of two different TV stations married to each other each host a local TV program dedicated to entertainment and lifestyles on the same day* (I was referring to Joe Emer of the program named "Studio 10" for the main programming feed of WALA-TV and Katie Herrera of the one named "Gulf Coast Today" for the main programming feeds of WPMI-TV and WJTC-TV).
(*the Tuesday of the thirty-first day of January of this calendar year)
