  • The digital sub-channel for WKRG-TV that usually only had weather information (including graphics, text, and instructional programs) had an updated version of a message it had earlier this calendar week about changes planned for it: "Weather information on this digital channel 5.2 will be permanently replaced by ION TV on Monday, Nov 2nd. And now 'Around the Web and Around the World'...and the gulf coast too").

Commentary: A transcript of an unobjective news broadcast

I believe this transcript of how one of the news presenters for WEAR-TV's local news operation (Jared Willets) ended their broadcast of some special news programming from their main provider of network programming (the American Broadcasting Company (ABC)) this past Wednesday, October 21st, is a good example of how news should not be disseminated:

"And that is from Washington, D. C. Vice President Joe Biden certainly taking his time and advantage of the opportunity to let us know that he is not running for president of these united states citing some family concerns with which we were very much aware. We'll have more on this of course throughout the day right here on Channel 3 News, but right now let me tell you about this: Diet Coke is a big loser in the cola wars. Sales plunged eight percent worldwide during the third quarter of this year, that follows big declines for Diet Coke in the first half of last year. Diet drinks are struggling. It would seem to be the ingredients make them less healthy than really advertised. Diet Coke['s] also struggling against itself: The growing popularity of no-calorie Coke Zero. I saw sales grow eight percent in the third quarter. Have a Coke and a smile."

News for Wednesday, October 21st, 2015

    • WEAR-TV had some special news programming* from their main provider of network programming (the American Broadcasting Company (ABC)) take precedence over local news programming for their main broadcast channel between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. today (they did not have all of the special programming broadcast, though).
    • The digital sub-channel for the Alabama Public Television station licensed to serve Mobile (WEIQ-TV) set to have programming from the national TV programming service known as Create TV from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on a daily basis had video of the service's programming from 12 hours earlier during that time period today while the sub-channel set to have their programming every hour each day had video of their current programming.
(*the special programming was about an announcement by the vice president of the United States: Joseph ("Joe") Biden)

      • According to today's edition of WALA-TV's local entertainment and lifestyle program ("Studio 10"), one of its hosts (Chasity Byrd) was part of a radio programming segment (about weather) she was told had to be replaced due it part of it being silent for 45 seconds when it was broadcast earlier in the day (she and the other host for the program (Joe Emer) had joked it about on today's edition of the program: for example, she, the host involved in the segment, said, "My forecast spoke for itself: I mean nothing going on at all, sunshine", to which he, the other host, replied, "That's some good airtime there: 45 seconds of nothing at all". The other host even tried to "recreate" it after a weather report she did near the end of today's edition of their program (he did so by staying silent, which caused her to shout, "Say something!", to which he replied, "I just wanted to recreate your radio announcement from this morning when you sent in 45 seconds of silence to the radio. Commentary: My mistakes

The corrections I had made on this weblog recently made me want to remind or inform its visitors that I had strived to have news articles without mistakes, that I am still bound to have news articles with mistakes since none of us is perfect, and that all I could do to avoid having news articles with mistakes is to keep striving toward that goal and do my very best. For example, I had done my very best to correct the mistakes I had made recently as soon as possible and acknowledge those mistakes as soon as possible.

I would appreciate being notified about any mistakes in future writings for this weblog through the comments sections for those writings.

Commentary: Alabama Public Television's new programming plan for digital sub-channels

I wish the folks in charge of Alabama Public Television would reconsider having each of their TV stations broadcast programming from the the national TV programming service known simply as Create TV on both of its sub-channels from 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on a daily basis and have them return to broadcasting the programming feed for the service known as World on one of their sub-channels all of time (I liked being able to see their programming feed between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., especially when it had programs I had missed between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.). I understood the reasons for the change, but it's not really fair to children of any level of maturity and the ones whom some adults may not consider mature enough for certain types of programs may still be able to access such programs through other means between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. or even through Alabama Public Television outside that time period through either their main broadcast channels or their sub-channels for broadcasting World's programming feed.
