News for Wednesday, December 27th, 2017

  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the first half of the hour of 10:00 p.m. on the Friday of the twenty-second day of this December ("WKRG News 5 at 10") had its weather reporter (Thomas Geboy) using the word "should" in reference to temperatures while presenting a report related to them (as in, "We started off in the lower sixties where we should be" for one report and,"Temperatures were in the upper seventies, about fifteen to twenty degrees above where we should be for this time of year" for another one).
  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WALA-TV during the hour of 6:00 a.m. on the Saturday of the twenty-third day of this December ("FOX 10 News at 6:00 a.m.) had its news presenter (Asha Staples) saying this to its weather reporter (Matt Barrentine) after mentioning the date for this Saturday ("Today is December 23rd") and introducing herself ("I'm Asha Staples."): "Just the day before Christmas Eve, Matt, can you believe that?" (the weather reporter said this immediately afterwards: "Yeah, two days 'til Christmas. I know the kids could believe it").
  • The local news programs that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WALA-TV during the hour of 7:00 a.m. on the Saturday of the twenty-third day of this December ("FOX 10 News at 7:00 a.m.") had its news presenter (Asha Staples) saying, "Christmas is just two days way, can you believe it" while presenting a summary of subjects planned planned for it before having her saying,"Good morning and thank you for choosing 'FOX 10 News' on this Saturday morning. Today is December 23rd, just two days away from Christmas, I know you can't believe it because I can't" after having an animated opening sequence.
  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the hour of 5:00 a.m. on the Saturday of the twenty-third day of this December ("WKRG News 5 This Morning: Saturday") had its news presenter (Chad Petri) presenting this comment related to a report of a decrease in the rate of unemployment in the state of Alabama he had just presented: "This is pretty good news for the state of Alabama as a whole, but News 5 dig a little digging and all of the counties in our viewing area, Mobile, Baldwin, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia*, and Washington all saw an slight increase in unemployment in October.
(*there were actually two counties named "Escambia" within the local broadcast area for WKRG-TV in recent times: one in the state of Alabama and one in the state of Florida)
