News for Thursday, January 11th, 2018

  • The main broadcast channel for WALA-TV appeared to have had a video related to their news operation with audio of an announcement congratulating a certain entity for a certain championship and a statement claiming the operation was the only local station to have had live "coverage" of activities related to it.
  • One of the standard-definition cable TV channels in the cable TV system operated operated by Comcast Cablevision of Mobile usually had the main programming feed for the main broadcast channel for WALA-TV appear more vertical than that of its regular format by the Wednesday of the tenth day of this January in recent times before appearing having it appear in a cropped format by then.
  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the second half of the hour of 6:00 p.m. on the Wednesday of the tenth day of this January ("WKRG News 5 at 6:30") appeared to have had some reporters (identified as "Chip Osowski" and "Ashley Liotus" by some captions of it on an Internet video stream) without any mention of whether they were members of the news operation at WKRG-TV or members of either another entity or two different entities.
  • The local news program for the broadcast channel of the station mentioned in the paragraph above this one had one its news presenters (Rose Ann Haven) saying, "Kickoff for the Saints and Vikings is set for 3:40 Sunday afternoon and before the big game be sure to watch the Saints pre-game special on the Gulf Coast CW (a nickname for the main programming feed for WFNA-TV*). It airs at 1:30 Saturday afternoon" after having a video of a report by one of the reporters mentioned in that paragraph (the second one mentioned in it) concerning two groups of football players named the Saints and Vikings.
  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WALA-TV during the first half of the hour of 10:00 p.m. on the Wednesday of the tenth day of this January ("FOX 10 News at 10:00 p.m.") had audio one of its news presenters (Bob Grip) saying, "A mother loses everything but the clothes on her back in a devastating house fire. FOX 10 News is learning it's just one of thirty house fires this year where a space heater may be to blame" immediately before one of its breaks from appearing on the channel during that period of time before having his appearing to say, "A Mobile family lost everything they owned when a fuse box caught fire and destroyed a home on Glen Acres Drive" before not having him or any other person stating whether it related to what he was saying immediately before that break (note: it also had audio of his saying, "Since December 1st, Mobile Fire-Rescue have responded to more than thirty house fires. Many stemmed from space heaters and people leaving things on the stove unattended" afterwards).**
(*WFNA-TV had the same ownership as the station for the broadcast channel that had the news program (they were members of a holding company named the Nexstar Media Group as part of that ownership)
(**a World Wide Web site connected to WALA-TV had a video and an article with details similar the reports presented by the news presenter).
