Commentary: Disappointment in return of TV program that was very popular in southwest Alabama ("Mama's Family")

I was very interested in the program returning to WKRG-TV's regular programming plans for the first time in years last Monday (the fourth Monday of this January) and disappointed in the way the episodes of the program to be part of their programming since then appeared when they were broadcast (they appeared as if they were made on film instead of videotape since every thing appeared to move slower than the way they usually moved in past broadcasts by other broadcasters). I don't believe either they or the programming service that provided the episodes (Memorable Entertainment Television) were at fault since someone involved in the management of the official Facebook page for the service had posted a message explaining that it was the fault of the company that gave them the video recordings of the episodes

(note: you may learn more about how the program was broadcast in this area years ago by visiting the historical feature on this weblog titled "History of 'Mama's Family' Television in Mobile, Alabama")

Commentary: A surprising introduction by a local TV news presenter and a comment by another one that was not really a surprise to me

I was surprised by what one of the news presenters for WALA-TV had said on one of their local news programs recently (Renee Dials of "FOX 10 News at 9:00 p.m." this past Sunday, January 3rd) since she said it very awkwardly ("the reporter has that story") and I could not remember ever hearing a news presenter refer to a news reporter by only the word "reporter" while introducing a news report narrated by the reporter he or she was referencing (in the case of the news presenter named Renee Dials, she was referring to a reporter for KQDS-TV in Duluth, Minnesota named Lena Takada).

As for what the other news presenter for WALA-TV said on one of their other local news programs recently (Bob Grip of "FOX 10 News at 5:00 p.m." this past Monday, January 4th), it did not really surprise me since he and many other news broadcasters had used their respective stations' program to share personal feelings about news over the course of history; whether they were their own feelings or not (in the case of what the news presenter named Bob Grip said that did not surprise me recently, this is what he said while introducing a news report about new jobs in Mobile: "FOX 10 News is committed to helping job-seekers and helping Mobile's economy grow").

News for Monday, January 4th, 2016

    • WKRG-TV had the host of a syndicated TV program based in Mobile (Danny Lipford of "Today's Homeowner") appear on the set of their local news programs for a segment of this past Sunday's edition of their local news program for Sunday mornings ("WKRG News 5 This Morning: Sunday") (it was for a regular series of segments for the program for advice on improving a home; "Ask Danny Lipford" was its name).
    • According to Alabama Public Television, one of the programming feeds for one of the digital sub-channels of each of their TV stations (southwest Alabama had one of those stations: WEIQ-TV) had one of their own programs (a documentary titled "Jeremiah Denton") instead of a national program (an episode of a series of documentaries named "Prohibition") during a time period in which it usually had a national program on a daily basis before then (6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.)*
(*the feed was usually set to have programs from a national TV programming service named Create TV from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and a live programming feed for a national TV programming service named World from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. before then. If it still had been set to begin having programming from World at 6:00 p.m. this past Sunday, it probably would have had only half of the program that was set to be on the live programming feed for World around that time since it was set to have the program from 5:00 p.m. until shortly before 7:00 p.m. that day).
