News for Friday, April 20th, 2018

  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WALA-TV during the hour of 9:00 p.m. on the Thursday of the nineteenth day of this April ("FOX 10 News at 9:00 p.m.") often appeared to have had its news presenter (Shelby Myers) saying, "Listen to this"  while beginning to present one of its reports (note: the channel usually did not have this Shelby Myers in the role of news presenter for installments of it that were part of its programming in that period of time from Monday through Friday before then in recent times).  
  • The local news program that appeared to the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the first half of the hour of 10:00 p.m. on the Wednesday of the eighteenth day of this April ("WKRG News 5 at 10") appeared to have had one of its news presenters (Rose Ann Haven) saying, "On the Baldwin County beat: some spectacular footage from Gulf State Park Pier this afternoon: take a look at what's over the rail of the pier: sharks, sharks, and more sharks: it's a sightseer's delight, but a constant battle for anglers who not only have to fight the fish they had hooked, but also fight the sharks that want to eat the fish, and a lot of times the sharks win -- and it seems the population is growing, too" for one of its reports.
  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the first half of the hour of 10:00 p.m. on the Thursday of the nineteenth day of this April ("WKRG News 5 at 10") appeared to have two separate reports related to weather (one with video of one of its reporters (a weather reporter named Thomas Geboy) and some graphics related to weather; one only with audio of the aforementioned reporter while having graphics related to weather) before its opening (note: other installments of the program  that were usually part of the programming of the channel in that period of time in recent times usually did not have two separate reports related to weather before their respective openings)).
  • The local news program that appeared to the main broadcast channel for WKRG-TV during the first half of the hour of 10:00 p.m. on the Wednesday of the eighteenth day of this April ("WKRG News 5 at 10") appeared to have had some of its audio being reduced at a gradual rate for one of its videos without any mention of it having happened (note #1: the video had a graphic involving text of "REPUBLICAN GUBERNATORIAL DEBATE", "LYRIC THEATRE", and "BIRMINGHAM" (note #2: the part of the video with the aforementioned audio appeared immediately after a part of it involving some audio of one of the news presenters (Rose Ann Haven) saying, "In Alabama politics tonight, Republican gubernatorial candidates Senator Bill Hightower from Mobile, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, and evangelist Scott Dawson, participated in a second GOP debate tonight. The front-runner, governor Kay Ivey, once again, did not participate. Candidates talked about key issues such as school safety and the idea of a lottery or gambling in the state to generate revenue.").
  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WALA-TV during the hour of 9:00 p.m. on the Wednesday of the eighteenth day of this April ("FOX 10 News at 9:00 p.m.") appeared to have had audio of one of its reporters (a news reporter named Byron Day) saying the word "sexier" for one of its reports (note #1: a certain Internet version of the program had an abrupt gap while having the report (note #2: the report itself: "TESS the planet hunter will be taking a never-before used orbital path to propel itself more than two hundred thirty thousand miles away from the earth. From that vantage point, it will train its four digital cameras on universes beyond ours looking for planets orbiting other suns. Now during that two year -- would be able to cover a much larger search area as it hunts for Earth-size or slightly larger heavenly bodies. Scientists could then examine those so-called exoplanets to see if they could be life-sustaining. By the way, the satellite is officially known as Transitioning Exoplanet Survey Satellite or TESS for short. 'Planet hunter' just sounds sexier. Lenise." (note #3: the news presenter for the program was named Lenise Ligon))).  
  • The local news program that appeared on the main broadcast channel for WALA-TV during the first half of the hour of 10:00 p.m. on the Monday of the sixteenth day of this April ("FOX 10 News at 10:00 p.m.") appeared to have had one of its news presenters (Lenise Ligon) saying, "Some positive entertainment news for you tonight: Rapper Kendrick Lamar -- his award collection just expanding with the addition of the Pulitzer Prize -- how about that -- The organization announcing the winner this afternoon -- Lamar chosen as a 2018 Pulitzer prize winner in music for his latest album -- on the Web site the organization lauding the hip-hop artist for quote capturing the complexity of modern African-American life. Lamar no stranger to awards -- of course the thirty-year-old has won eleven Grammys. I wonder what he's done with them all? Where does he keep them?" and the other news presenter (Byron Day) saying, "Right on the mantle" immediately afterwards after appearing to have had the one mentioned earlier saying, "Day six of the Cosby retrial continuing. The woman accusing him of sexual battery back on the stand. Cosby accused of sexually assaulting Andrea Constand, a former director of operations for Temple University women's basketball team -- he's accused of three counts of aggravated assault -- each count carries up to ten years in prison -- the first trial ended with a mistrial after 52 hours of jury deliberation".
