News for Saturday, December 13th, 2014

• The news presenter on this past Thursday's edition of WALA-TV's local 5:00 p.m. news program (the name of the news presenter was Lenise Ligon) uttered the phrase "committed to you" in reference to their news department in between her news presentations for promotional purposes (both she and her colleague Bob Grip, the other regular news presenter for the program, had also uttered "your most local news at 5:00" to promote the news department on recent editions of the program, mainly while doing "teasers" for news reports either one of them would present later on those editions of the program).

• According to a news release issued by the parent company of WKRG-TV (Media General) and the parent company of both WALA-TV and WFNA-TV (LIN Media) this past Friday, December 12th, the Federal Communications Commission (the FCC) approved a plan for the companies to merge (the plan was set to be completed by next Friday, December 19th) and granted applications for permits to transfer the broadcast licenses of WALA-TV and some of the companies' other TV stations (outside of the Mobile, Alabama-Pensacola, Florida TV market) to separate companies in order for the plan to be approved (the Meredith Corporation was set to receive the broadcast license for WALA-TV).
